It’s been a tough year for gardeners – an unholy trinity of heavy rainfall, battering storms and extreme heat & drought. Increasingly, however, this seems likely to be the ‘new normal’. Join us for an interactive gardening workshop on Wednesday 23 September at 18:00, with a short talk followed by discussion and sharing of ideas.
We’ll focus on what works now – what has succeeded (and what hasn’t) this summer: ‘hero’ plants that have thrived, composting and mulching, drainage and water retention, and the use of shade, greenhouses and other techniques to help gardens cope with heat and drought. Please send photos of your garden to jardinage@veem.fr if you can, as these will help spark discussion.
We will also briefly consider the wider question of how gardening may need to adapt to a changing climate. As seasons become less predictable, with hotter summers, milder winters and more extreme weather, what changes should we be making to the way we garden throughout the year?
The session will be held in English with translation help available. The venue will be either George Brassens or the VEEM Office (to be confirmed).
An apero will be offered on arrival.
