Figueres is home to one of Spain's most extraordinary attractions: the Dalí Theatre-Museum. Housed in the town's former theatre and designed down to the last detail by Salvador Dalí himself, the museum is considered the largest surrealist object in the world. Room after room reveals paintings, sculptures, optical illusions and installations spanning his career, from his early period (1917-1928) through the surrealist years (1929-1940) to his later, more classical style (1941-1983). A visit here isn't simply a museum tour, it's a walk through the imagination of one of the 20th century's most eccentric artists.
